the
scattered deck
a living work
A tarot deck is designed as a complete structure — seventy-eight images forming a unified system.
The Scattered Deck alters the condition of containment.
Instead of remaining closed, the structure is dispersed.
What was once held together now moves outward —
not only to move through the world, but to carry the work forward into what follows.
The whole does not disappear — it reorganises, card by card across distance, continuing through those who hold it.
single cards

Individual cards from the Wounded Edition are distributed through this site as part of an ongoing dispersal.

Each card carries its provenance within the limited 2025 printing. The pieces stand independently while still belonging to the larger structure of the deck.

Cards are not selected in advance. Each mailing is a blind draw: the card leaves the studio sealed and unseen, determined by chance rather than choice. Even I do not know which image travels in each envelope.

Recipients may share where a card has travelled or what it meant to them, contributing to the visible record of the deck’s ongoing life.
In this way the work remains active — not stored, but circulating — allowing the story of the deck to continue beyond its original form.

Each card carries the material weight of the work — time, cost, and labour invested over six years. Their circulation supports what comes next, making the Phoenix edition possible.

a living map

On this site, a living map gradually forms, showing where each card has travelled.
No names are recorded and no addresses stored — only the card’s title and the city in which it arrives.

Over time the dispersal creates a visible pattern: seventy-eight points of light across the globe, a structure reorganising itself through distance. When one full sequence has completed its journey, another may begin — not repetition, but renewal.

Individual cards are not chosen; they arrive. Once received, the holder may explore the full analysis of that card on this site — its imagery, meaning, and interpretations — and, if desired, use it within a personal reading.

The map does not track ownership. It records movement. The deck is held together through circulation, not containment.

Each arrival marks a point where the work meets the world — not in theory, but in place. Over time, these points form a visible record: not of ownership, but of presence, as the deck continues beyond the studio and into lived experience.
renewal
What began as a compromised edition becomes movement.
What was once contained now circulates.

As individual cards travel, the structure does not dissolve — it adapts.
When the last of this edition has found its place, another may follow — corrected, refined, and informed by what came before.

Not replacement.
Continuation.

The work is not restarted; it is carried forward.

To support what comes next:
keep the work in motion

Follow the project, share the work, or mention it when a card speaks to you. Each act of attention helps the deck continue its journey.

The Scattered Deck moves one card at a time. When a card is seen, discussed, or passed onward, the structure remains active beyond the studio.

This project proceeds without sponsors or institutional backing. It advances through those who choose to engage with it.

If the project resonates, share it. If a card finds you, pass it on, speak of it, let it continue its path.

Each image circulated extends the life of the deck — not as product, but as practice.
Visibility sustains the work. It is continuation.

other ways you can help

looking ahead
the phoenix edition

The story continues beyond the first printing. The corrected printed edition will be built on everything the first taught. The same images return — held to the standard originally intended.

This next run will appear as The Tribute Tarot — Phoenix Edition, not a reinvention, but a return to precision. It will include an accompanying book drawn from the essays and analyses written across this site. That was always part of the original intention.

When the Wounded decks and single cards have gone out into the world, the Phoenix will rise — corrected, refined, and faithful to the original proof. But it will always carry the memory of what came before, as every repaired thing must.
